Richard-Donnelly

Prof. Richard Donnelly M.D, Ph.D, FRCP, FRACP, FBPhS

Emeritus Professor in the School of Medicine, University of Nottingham, UK

Richard Donnelly is Emeritus Professor in the School of Medicine, University of Nottingham, UK, and a Consultant Physician / Endocrinologist. His interests are in endocrine and cardiovascular pharmacology, and disease-modifying interventions to prevent diabetes-related vascular complications.

Prior to his 20 year career in Nottingham which included various leadership roles, RD held clinical academic posts in the University of Sydney, Australia (1994-1997), Stanford University, CA, USA (1992-4), and the University of Glasgow (1985-1992).

He is currently Editor-in-Chief of Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism, having been one of the two founding editors of this journal in 1998. The journal has a current impact factor of 5.9 and ranks in the top 20 Endocrine journals.

Michael Kirby

Michael Kirby has been a GP and vocational trainer in Letchworth, Hertfordshire 1973- 2008. He was the Director of HertNet (The Hertfordshire Primary Care Research Network) 1998-2008, and Visiting Professor to the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences at the University of Hertfordshire, Professor of Primary Care at the Institute of Diabetes for Older People, University of Bedfordshire (IDOP) and subsequently attending physician to the Prostate Centre, London, where he dealt with complex medical problems until 2020.

He qualified at St Mary's Hospital, London before working as a Cardiology Registrar, and subsequently Hospital Practitioner at the QEII Hospital, Hertfordshire. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, an Associate Member of the British Association of Urological Surgeons and a Trustee of the Sexual Advice Association. He is a committee member of the British Society for Sexual Medicine. He was Editor in Chief of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Journal, and currently is Editor of Trends in Urology & Men’s Health, and reviewer and advisor for many other Journals. He also holds membership of several NHS advisory boards. He has published more than 450 clinical papers and 32 books, most recently this year, the 4th edition of Men’s health, including 55 chapters. His special interests include cardiology, diabetes, osteoporosis, men's health, urology, andrology and education.

Lior Shapira

Chairman of the Department of Periodontology in the Hebrew University- Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine, Jerusalem

Prof. Lior Shapira is the Chairman of the Department of Periodontology in the Hebrew University- Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine, Jerusalem. He is a full-professor of Periodontology and also serves as the “Betty and D. Walter Cohen Chair for Periodontal Research”.

Prof. Shapira graduated from the Dental Faculty at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and achieved his specialty in Periodontology. Following a 2 year fellowship in the Eastman Dental Center (University of Rochester, NY), he completed his PhD thesis on the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases in Jerusalem.

Prof. Shapira has a long tracking record in dental research, throughout his career. His research is focused on the mechanisms of inflammation during periodontal and peri-implant infections. He published over 150 scientific papers, as well as many reviews. The research efforts led to International awards: Teva award, 1996; Rizzo Award - IADR periodontal research group, 1999; Finalist in the “Jaccard-EFP Research Price Competition”, 2000; Sunstar Award (Best article on perio-systemic connection), 2003; IADR Distinguish Scientist Award in Periodontal Research – IADR, 2009; Honorary Award from the Israeli Dental Association, 2020. Recently, Prof. Shapira served as the president of the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) 2021-2022.

Bjorn Klinge

Emeritus Professor in the Department of Dental Medicine, Division of Oral Disease at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden

Professor Björn Klinge received his DDS from Lund University, Sweden, in 1977 and earned his doctorate in Odontology in 1984, also from Lund University. In 1988 he became recognized specialist in Periodontology by the Swedish National board of health and welfare.

At Lund University Björn Klinge was Associate Dean for dental education. In 1979-1980 he was a visiting junior Staff member at Loma Linda University, CA, USA. He was Head of the Department of Experimental Surgical Research at the faculty of Odontology in Malmo, Sweden, from 1980-1994. During that period he developed recognized models for research on tissue-integrated implants and periodontal regeneration. In 1994 Björn Klinge was appointed Professor and Chair of Periodontology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm by the Swedish Government. Soon after his arrival he was appointed Dean and he was responsible for extensive development of the Dental faculty, including education, research and clinical activities. In 2012 he was recruited to Malmö University as the Dean for the Faculty of Odontology as well as Professor in Periodontology.

He is currently Professor em in the Department of Dental Medicine, Division of Oral Disease at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden and Senior Professor of Periodontology, Faculty of Odontology, Malmö University, Sweden. Björn Klinge is a Special Guest Professor at Instituto Universitario, Egas Moniz, Lisbon, Portugal. He is Scientific Advisor in Periodontology to the National Board of Health and Welfare in Sweden and Scientific Editor for the Journal of the Swedish Dental Association.

Professor Klinge is Honorary Fellow at the Singapore Dental Hospital, and Honorary Professor at Ji-Lin University in China and Honorary member of the Swedish Dental Association. He is a Board member and Past President of the Scandinavian Society of Periodontology, and former President of the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO). He is a past President and Honorary member of the Swedish Periodontal Association. In February 2020 he was awarded the Karolinska Institute Silver medal for his outstanding service in promoting human health through research, education and communication with the society.

Recently his research interest and related publications (around 180 scientific international publications available through PubMed) mainly focus on the oral-systemic link, periimplantitis and periodontal tissue regeneration. Klinge has lectured extensively nationally and internationally by invitation to around 40 countries worldwide.

Yaohua Chen

Yaohua CHEN is an Associate Professor in NeuroGeriatrics in the University of Lille. She is working in the memory clinic and the fall clinic in the University Hospital of Lille, in France. She is also the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Geriatrics and Psychiatry, and senior Atlantic Fellow in the Global Brain Health Institute in Trinity College Dublin. She obtained a PhD position in a translational work of a murine model and a cohort of patients with Alzheimer's disease in the Lille Neuroscience & Cognition Research Centre (U1172) - neurodegenerative and vascular cognitive disorders. Her research interests are different determinants of cognitive decline among older persons, and she is driven by providing personal prevention strategy against cognitive decline.

Lorinne Levitt

Dr. Lorinne Levitt, MD

Active physician in Hadassah Hebrew University medical center

Dr Levitt is an obstetrician, specializes in maternal fetal medicine. She is an active physician in Hadassah Hebrew University medical center, and the head of the high-risk pregnancy unit. Her interest in research involves prenatal diagnosis of congenital CMV, labor complications, prenatal ultrasound and more.
